Erin of Erin Travels (Twitter: @Erin_Travels) shows us how she packs just 12 items of clothing in a carry on bag for a 2 month trip to China. I’m not a big fan of maxi-dresses as they take up a lot of room. Erin shows us how to maximize the maxi into lots of outfits, including using a maxi skirt as a dress.
I’d make one change to the wardrobe. I’d bring a pair of light pants just in case a storm blows in. I also don’t see a rain jacket. Other than that, it is a pretty sweet capsule!
Nifty packing but having just visited China – I do wonder if the tank tops and strapless dress would be offensive in a country where people dress conservatively?
I have to agree with you. Most cultures expect coverage from shoulders to knees. She has brought a couple of scarves, a sweater, and a denim shirt to increase coverage. Shorts also can be an issue, which is why I favor skorts. Many places view shorts as resort wear and only acceptable at the beach or where tourists gather. Not the best if you are heading for a true immersive experience!
How much underwear and socks did you bring?
I’m not sure what Erin’s list includes. Normally 3-5 pairs of underwear and 2-4 socks. Sink wash every few days and wear them again. This is dependent on washing facilities but undies and socks are easy to sink wash.
